WHAT WE DO
Our Mission And Values
Our mission is to improve communications through technology. This process is in constant motion to encompass and adapt to all forms of communication, including voice, data, video, and print. Our job is to streamline your day by increasing the flow of information. We recognize and follow the impact of new trends, and then incorporate our findings into a mainstream technology.
ProTel’s two greatest assets are the clients who give us our reputation and the employees who help build it. As such, we approach all things with the utmost commitment to honesty and integrity. We understand that trust must be earned and preserved, and we approach every day and every interaction as an opportunity to do just that.
The Right Set Of Circustances
With the start of deregulation, the communications industry faced a massive overhaul. A twelve-year veteran of Southwestern Bell Telephone, Steve Thompson, seized the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to start his own business selling and servicing telephone equipment. And just like that, ProTel was born.
ProTel’s first offices were in Steve’s basement. He handled all of the sales, installation, and service work while his wife, Bonnie, took calls and oversaw accounting.
Several employees, an association with Hedges Communications, and six years later, Steve decided it was time to move out of the basement.

GROWTH
The Stops Along The Way
After years of consistent and significant growth, and with a reputation of providing the best telephone products and service in Southwest Missouri, ProTel parted ways with Hedges.
As ProTel continued to grow and expand, the company changed offices several times. In December of 1998, the company moved into its permanent home at 2929 N. Eastgate Avenue.
Passing The Torch
After twenty-five years, Steve and Bonnie retired and entrusted the company they had built to Bruce Jones, Shane Taylor, and Randy Harris, three of their managers who had worked for Steve and believed in his vision. After twenty-six years of service, Randy Harris passed away in 2011. Bruce and Shane remain ProTel’s owners and leadership.
